Today Barack Obama released his long-form birth certificate[1]. This move does not scream experience, strength, or conviction, but rather it screams of a move that reeks of desperation. Did Barack Obama think that this would make the ‘birther’ crowd go away (Drudge Report has already reported about a fringe group that would emerge—“Certers”[2])? In all, this is starting to look like a terrible move for the POTUS, and here are some reasons why:

1)      He legitimizes the Donald—This can’t be a good sign, he fought off the allegations for almost 2 years, but now crumbles in the face of (arguably) the least legitimate candidate in the field, Donald Trump. This sign does bear well when he goes up against stiffer competition, like a Mitt Romney perhaps—who will hit him hard on the failures of his administration, namely the economy.

2)      He is going to be undermined by those within his party—Democratic leaders such as Jesse Jackson have already painted this as a ‘racial’ issue[3]. As the left starts this smear campaign, the American public will already be able to decode the real issues and separate that from the name calling that has already started around the release. Playing the ‘race card’ is not appropriate now, or ever.

3)      Weakness now, may erode the party from within—My democratic friends are already clamoring about how this was ‘useless’ and ‘silly.’ But, internally, many of them are afraid that Obama is taking an angle of appeasement to the GOP and Tea Party (who they unfairly lump together). They see it as a way to sway votes, since a recent poll said that 1 in 4 Americans believed that he was born abroad[4]. But, with your own base questioning the reasoning behind your decisions—how can you possibly gain their votes.

In all, this was a move of utter desperation, at the time that Democrats are looking for an economic leader and Republicans looked in a leader-less position. But, this strange move, may give the GOP the momentum they need moving forward to 2012.

An interesting article was posted in the Nashua Telegraph—it spoke about how Mitt Romney has been shying away from the success of his healthcare in his home state of Massachusetts, because it looked too much like the much-maligned Obamacare. The author notes: “…with its individual responsibility provision and ground-breaking “marketplace” exchanges, has been a shining example for policy makers across the nation.” [1] This kind of praise does not come often from the Left-Leaning media, so lets see how Obama and Romney’s plans differ.

The first comes from the size of the foot that the shoe is being placed upon—Mitt Romney created a plan that best fit his home state, while Obama mismanaged by trying to create a one-size-fits-all solution for the entire United States. This idea was seconded by a Tea Party leader, Marco Rubio[2]. This is surprising to see since the voices in the Tea Party that have been the loudest have been the ones shouting down the unconstitutionality of Obamacare—so if Tea Partiers are on board, there must have been differences that made sense to them.

Romney states the idea that government should not run national “…healthcare any more than it's the answer for running Amtrak or the Post Office.” [3] There is a true difference here that in the state of Massachusetts, 98% of the citizens are insured and it only added 1% to the State Budget (which he had balanced well before he took on this initiative[4].

So, in conclusion, what is the major difference? From a 30,000-foot view, they look the same—but in the execution, Romney set himself apart. Romney didn’t mandate this to the nation or to all of New England, he took it to one state—and it was extremely effective. He only did it once the government could handle the increased spending and he effectively implemented it. Obamacare has turned into a mess that cannot be controlled that is burying physicians and patients alike under miles of paperwork. Romney’s healthcare plan worked for Massachusetts, it may not work for Georgia or California—but it made sense at the time and it was done well.

As the media takes this molehill and makes it into a mountain, Romney can be proud he is not trying to shove a mountain of legislation down the government’s throat.

Today, I heard some crippling news--China will overtake the United States in 2016, as determined by the IMF[1]. Five years from now, the United States will have the second-largest economy in the world. Our debt and lack of restraint while spending has thrown us, literally under the bus. But, I was unsure about how bad this was....how bad is $1.4 trillion, how much do we owe China, where do we go from her?

Our current debt to China is $843 Billion, and it is climbing. That is currently, a little over 60% of our total debt. Our current debt is larger than the GDP of China, the UK, and  Australia...combined[2]. Each taxpayer's current contribution to the debt--is equal to $128,000+ [3]. We are drowning because of programs such as Social Security, Medicare, etc. And this will not be the burden of the current people in office, but rather (with this new projection) will be the burden that will squarely fall on me as I try my best to provide for retiring baby boomers and for their Obamacare.

In all, the current presidency, with the installation of socialist-esque healthcare and the raising of taxes, does not make any sense. As said before, with each taxpayer’s share of the debt well above $100,000—HUGE tax raises will need to be made to even make a dent in the current debt. But, a plan of fiscal responsibility may allow us to try and fight back into our current spot as #1 in the world.

As for now, the Dragon of the Far East is waiting—biding its time, until 2016. And if the people who have failed us in the last two years are not replaced the blog that I have about the 2016 election, may be written in Cantonese.

Donald Trump is a showman, and his recent run for President shows that he is completely off his rocker. But, I think it shows more about what the upcoming fight for President will look like. NO, I won’t believe Trump’s run is serious and NO I don’t think he has greater than a snowball’s chance in hell to win. Donald Trump has come into our homes week after week on “The Apprentice,” but the beauty of the whole show is that if you didn’t want to watch him—you could change the channel. But now, everywhere you look, Trump has trumped the mainstream media’s chatterboxes and talking heads.

Why are they so focused on him? He finished 15 points behind Obama in a recent Rasmussen poll and could not muster more than 65% of his own party’s votes[1]. His chances are worse than his haircuts-but why does Chris Matthews[2], Rachel Maddow, and the like LOVE talking about him? Because he is an easy target. As a longtime liberal, I can tell you that many of the friends I have are scared of this upcoming election and Trump looks like he is the only established candidate, because he is the only one anyone is talking about. But, this shows that liberals don’t want to discuss the issues—they want to discuss personalities.

So, maybe, Trump is not a showman or a real candidate, but rather a thermometer to show what the 2012 election will look like. It’s not a discussion about jobs or the economy or even social issues for Democrats, but rather, it is a discussion about bad haircuts, reality TV, and viewership. If this is the realm that the Democrats want to play in—I urge you to look past the murky nonsense and find the facts on your own. And make sure Obama hears, “You’re fired.”

I’m not sure what to think about Sarah Palin. I will tell you this one fact, she is not dumb—it takes charisma, character, and a great deal of intelligence to run a campaign and win the campaign to be Governor of any state.  He unemployment record in the state of Alaska is not exceptional (7.2% when she started, 7.2% when she ended her term in office)[1]. She has had a strong history of reform in her home state, as she challenged her own party on ethics while serving on the state’s Oil and Gas Conservation Commission [2] But, there is something utterly charismatic about her…

This past Saturday, Former Governor Palin led a Tea Party rally in Madison, Wisconsin, she was not afraid to go after the top brass of the GOP (“We didn’t elect you to rearrange the deck chairs on a sinking Titanic”), to show compromise with union members (“A pension is promise that must be kept…[Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker] is trying to save your jobs and your pensions”), and most of all was not afraid to challenge President Obama (“Mr. President, game on!)[3]. If there is one thing that can be said about her, it is that she does not back down—she has been in strong support of drilling for oil in Alaska, even in the face of harsh criticism from the far liberal left. She also was able to manufacture large tax rebates for her state, including a $1,200 check for each resident of the state[2].

Sarah Palin is not your cookie-cutter candidate, but admittedly, as a former Obama supporter, he had the same charisma and the same uniqueness that may help Sarah Palin as the election approaches and she mulls her own run for office in 2012. Still not up to the level in job creation as Romney or Rep. Ryan’s plan (both of whom I have praised on this blog), but maybe, just maybe—she might break the glass ceiling with that go-getter attitude.

President Obama did not spend his time attacking Donald Trump, Mitt Romney, or Tim Pawlenty this week, but rather his focus turned to the state of Wisconsin and a 7th term representative that is making a lot of noise. Representative Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) offices are only a one hour and twenty minute drive from Obama’s home district in Chicago—but the fight that appears to be coming may shape the rest of the nation immensely.

Today, Standard and Poors downgraded the United States’ outlook to ‘negative’ [1]. While the Obama Administration was quick to make the decision seem as ludicrous as possible, strong leaders within the GOP camp came to express disappointment in this announcement. As Obama hid another set of tax cuts, Rep. Ryan has created a sound budget that will trim the deficit without raising taxes [2]. The most noteworthy of those? Rep. Ryan who said, in a press release[3]:

“We face the most predictable economic crisis in our history — a crisis driven by the explosive growth of government spending and debt. House Republicans took action last week to chart a new course by passing a budget that lifts our crushing burden of debt and puts our economy on the path to prosperity. By contrast, the President’s budget locks in Washington’s recent spending spree, adds $13 trillion to the debt over the next decade, and accelerates our nation toward a fiscal crisis. The failure to advance solutions threatens not only the livelihoods of future generations, but also the economic security of American families today. A campaign speech is no substitute for a serious, credible budget. The President and his party’s leaders must put an end to empty promises and work with us to avert this looming economic crisis.”

Rep. Ryan is doing something that I criticized Speaker John Boehner for not doing last week—fighting the good fight. Rep. Ryan isn’t trying to create compromise with overspending and stifling the economy with growing taxes. Rep. Ryan’s plan [4] helps those freshmen congressmen keep their promise to their constituents to control the wallets in Washington. Though Rep. Ryan is not running for President, he has my vote as a true leader with vision in the upcoming election.

It appears that Rep. Paul Ryan will be one of the major focal points in this upcoming election--and he's not even running. Obama clearly has Rep. Ryan on his radar, but will it backfire for the President?

Dollar looking even weaker as Standard & Poors' outlook for the United States credit rating--you would also have a negative outlook on your credit rating if you couldn't pay your bills.

Will Geithner's cockiness pay off in the long run? Or will Congressional GOPers prove him wrong--I'm not sure I like the idea of the debt ceiling debate becoming a game of who can show the most machismo.
